Sort of a hiatus.

In the meantime, you should go see War of the Worlds.

Or, email me.

Sentiment within me glows.

Music meme that's been going around. 6 random songs that I like a lot right now, most of them being songs I associate with the summer time, since it's so hot right now that I can't really do much more than sit around and listen to music.

1/ Dressy Bessy, "Just like Henry". This was used in the film But I'm A Cheerleader which I had the pleasure of watching a few nights ago. It's seriously a fucking ray of sunshine and is reminscent of high school summers.

2/ Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, "The Tracks of my Tears". Classic, never gets old. So emotional and beautiful.

3/ Elefant, "Bokkie". Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid was on repeat in my disc player for the entire summer of 03 and most of 04.

4/ Seals & Crofts, "Summer Breeze". Not embarassed about this pick at all, not in the least.

5/ Van Morrison, "Domino". Another classic, good for summer nights after you've worn out the Seals and Crofts.

6/ Red House Painters, "San Geronimo". This reminds me of a few firsts: the first summer I spent with S., the first time I saw the ocean, and the first time I went to Montauk.

Ticking clock, everyone stop.

I can easily see myself becoming more of a hermit (than I already am, of course). My first online clothing shopping experience was almost too easy, but I won't bet too much money on it until I have the clothes on me and see if they actually fit properly. Also, summer flip flops were fun to buy and shipping costs weren't terrible (still cheaper to go to the store, though), but I would rather avoid LI shopping centers in the warm weather. It's best if I not subject myself to the screaming and the parking for the sake of my sanity.

Despite the sticky weather, I remain commited to my summertime plan of not becoming a slob on the couch, and thusly, have begun walking around my neighborhood in the heat of the afternoon. Lack of sidewalks on certain blocks are still annoying, though.

And lastly, to provide you with some intellectual stimulation, here is a short list of books I've read recently that don't suck:
Edith Wharton, The House of Mirth
Margaret Atwood, Oryx and Crake
Amy Tan, The Kitchen God's Wife
Dan Chaon, You Remind Me of Me (brought to my attention by Kyle)

Music: Zero 7, "In the Waiting Line"

Things that arrive in the mail.

My day was made immeasurably better by the arrival of what may possibly be the weirdest/most awesome thing I've ever received in the mail (courtesy of S.): a bag of ketchup and dill pickle chips! This may seem like small potatoes (pardon the pun) to anyone living in Canada, but to a Canadian living in the United States for the past 2 and a half years, it means a lot--I've been deprived of my favourite salty snacks for way too long. I can't find these flavours anywhere in the supermarkets on LI.

Also, on an unrelated note, I either have too many books or a house too small to accomodate all my books, because I barely started organizing them before I gave up today. I estimate it'll be at least a 6 hr project.

Music: The Ramones, "Sheena is A Punk Rocker"
